Tancho, or Red Crowned Cranes are a big and beautiful bird that can be seen only in Hokkaido in Japan. They inhabit in a particular area of eastern Hokkaido. In Akan Town you can often see the wild Tancho in the field, e.g. in the field after dent corn is harvested.
At this time of year, you can see any of Tancho of single, double and triple.
If you see a Tancho single, it is a young bird that has not have a partner yet.
If you see two birds, it must be a couple, for they always act as a couple. They never change their partner whole life long.
If you see a group of three, it is a family. Tancho couple usually have one baby a year.
Tancho was once thought completely extinct. However, fortunately , the number has been increasing since a dozen of Tancho was found in Kushiro City in 1924, and conservation efforts continued.
The flying Tancho is especially graceful, which must touch your heartstrings.
