Located in Teshikaga Town in the Eastern part of Hokkaido, Lake Mashu is the most transparent lake in Japan. Due to its depth and transparency, there is little reflection of light other than blue, and on a clear day the color of the lake’s surface is known as ‘Mashu blue’.

Sunayu area in Lake Kussharo has natural hot spring and the lake does not freeze in this area. Swans migrating from Siberia rest in flocks during winter time.
