Lake Onuma is absolutely beautiful all year round!
About 50-minute-drive from Hakodate, you will get to a picturesque site consisting of Onuma (Big Lake), Konuma(Small Lake) , Junsai(water shield)-numa.
The lakes dotted with 126 small islands were created by volcanic activities of Mt. Komagatake, which can be seen over the lakes, in ancient times.
This park once was a very popular summer resort among overseas residents when the port of Hakodate opened to the world, and overseas people living in Hakodate came to increase at the end of 19th century.
Nowadays, even though the number of Hakodate’s foreign residents is small, Lake Onuma attracts more and more tourists from all over the world.
