April in Japan marks the beginning of a new chapter, with the start of both the academic year and new beginnings for many people. As cherry blossoms bloom in full, many students and workers are stepping into new environments.
While cherry blossoms are in full bloom across much of Japan, here in Niseko, Hokkaido, the landscape still feels like winter.
Ski resorts are still open, and skiers and snowboarders are taking advantage of the cold weather.
Japan’s long north-south stretch offers a wide variety of climates, making it possible to enjoy both cherry blossom viewing and skiing in March and April – a truly unique way to experience the country.
