This is Nikka’s first distillery established by the founder, Masataka Taketsuru.
Blessed with a cool and humid climate and rich nature, Yoichi was the ideal place for Masataka who had learned whisky making in Scotland.
In this historical distillery built in 1934, traditional coal fired distillation is still adapted to make bold and rich malt whiskey.
Here, we can feel Masataka’s passion to make the first and the best whisky in Japan and the deep love of his wife Rita, who supported Masataka’s passion all through her life.
