Do you know Marimo?
Marimo is a species of algae that grows in water and grows by photosynthesis.

The body of the Marimo is originally thread-like, forming clumps, rotated and curled up at the bottom of the water by the force of wind and waves.
Spherical marimo with a diameter of more than 30 cm have been found in Lake Akan.

Marimo was designated as a national natural monument in 1921 (a special natural monument since 1952).
Natural Marimo can be seen at the Marimo Exhibit and Observation Center on Churui Island, where you can reach by Lake Akan Boat cruise.
